Boston Tutor Profile: Biochemistry, Pre-med, and International Studies major at Boston University

Tutor Profile
Sophomore at Boston University with a 3.50 GPA
Majoring in Biochemistry, Pre-med, and International Studies

Gender:
Female

Preferred Subjects
Chemistry, Biology, and SAT

Experience:

I go to Boston University as a Trustee Scholar. This is a brief introduction about the Trustee Scholarship Program given by Boston University:
The Trustee Scholarship is Boston University's most prestigious merit-based award, recognizing those students who show outstanding academic and leadership abilities. Trustee Scholars are selected from students who have been nominated by principals and headmasters of high schools throughout the world. Each Scholar receives a renewable scholarship covering full undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees. Those students who are most qualified for the scholarship are usually in the top one percent of their class and are also leaders in their schools and communities.

I have also been accepted to Wellesley College, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, and Brown University.

I scored a cumulative score of 2290 on my SAT I (770 CR 770 MA 750 WR). I also took 7 AP tests: World History (5) English Language (4) English Literature (5) Chinese (5) Biology (5) European History (5) Calculus AB (5).

I have taught SAT II Chemistry, SAT II Biology, SAT I Critical Reading and Writing, Pre-Calculus, and SAT II Math IIC for the past two summers at private institutions in Republic of Korea. I got along with my students very well and loved spending time with them. I started tutoring peers ever since I was a junior in high school as I was a member and President of the National Honor Society.

Currently I am taking organic chemistry, cellular biology, history of international relations 1900-1945, and introduction to microeconomics. I have taken general chemistry and honors biology as a freshman.

As a high school student, I spent many months considering my future plans. I researched extensively on different schools and different programs and realized that it's not only the name of the school that is important, but it is whether or not the student "clicks" with the school. I have been advising Korean students who study in the United States for 2 consecutive years over email and at times in person.

Hobbies:

I love singing, dancing, and listening to music. I am a premed student and I love to watch medical TV shows such as House and Grey's Anatomy. I study hard but also party hard during weekends and love studying new languages.

Hourly Rate:
$25.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Weekends at any time
Mon/Wed/Fri in the evening
Friday at any time

Lives Near:
02215 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor

Boston Tutor Profile: Economics major at MIT

Tutor Profile
Phd candidate at MIT with a 3.90 GPA
Majoring in Economics

Gender:
Female

Preferred Subjects
Algebra, Calculus, General Math, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Trigonometry, and Economics

Experience:

I'm starting my 3rd year of the Economics PhD program at MIT.

I'm good at explaining complex ideas in an intuitive way (or so people tell me). I have tutored in economics and mathematics in high school and college. I try to get students excited about the subject they're studying as well while at the same time meeting their goals.

I scored 720 on the verbal section of the GRE and 800 on the math section of the GRE. However, I don't believe that good test scores alone make a good tutor. I will work with the student to understand what their goals are and create a personal plan for achieving them.

Hobbies:

I play tennis and bike.
I like to solve crossword puzzles online and keep up with the news.
I'm learning how to play guitar.
I like reading popular books written by academics, such as "Predictably Irrational" by Dan Ariely.

Hourly Rate:
$30.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Weekdays in the evening
Weekends at any time

Lives Near:
02138 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor

My name is Tara and I am in my senior year at Northeastern University.
I am especially a math tutor. My major is biotechnology but math has always been my great passion. So, students who have difficulty with mathematics and those who are enthusiastic about exploring math are welcome. I really love to share my knowledge and experience in math with others.
My focus will be not only on solving problems that students ask, but guiding them how to tackle problems of all difficulty levels. I also teach effective ways of learning math and short cut ways for calculations and provide tips to memorize things easily. I always make my tutoring sessions both fun and productive and have been able to teach students with very poor to strong academic backgrounds with equal success.
I also have a decent experience with teaching the math section of SAT, GRE, GMAT etc.
Experience:
Tutored algebra and physics at Northeastern University
Tutored students for SAT,GRE and GMAT
Helped students with English for ESL and TOEFL exams at St. Xavier’s college, Nepal (Volunteer)
Served as a columnist in a national daily, The Himalayan Times in Nepal for over a year

Tutoring for me is not just sharing fish with others but teaching them how to fish.

Hobbies:

I am highly inclined in music and can play a couple of instruments, have some classical vocal training. I have a great passion to travel around the world, meet a number of ethnic groups and learn different languages. I love sports, especially soccer.

Hourly Rate:
$25.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Weekends at any time
Any day after 2PM
Tues/Thurs in the morning

Lives Near:
02145 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor
