| Experience: | When I was in high school, I spent several semesters volunteering as a tutor at my local elementary school. I worked with fourth and fifth graders in math and English skills. Because of this opportunity, my neighbor asked me to tutor her daughter in math and reading. The first job at the school was unpaid, while my neighbor paid me for tutoring her daughter.
I did not take the SAT, but I took the ACT and received a 29 on the test. I took the AP Language exam in high school and received a 4, so I opted out of a basic writing requirement my freshman year of college.
In my first year of college, I took a journalism course. I am currently enrolled in math, and I am taking another journalism course next semester. I have written and taken pictures for my state newspaper (I am from West Virginia), my high school's newspaper, and Northeastern's newspaper.
I babysat often in high school, so I have experience with younger children. I want to be a tutor because I enjoy making a difference in someone's life, whether big or small. My compassion drives me in many areas of my life. For instance, because of this trait, I am a vegetarian, I am very open-minded, and I am a gentle person. More relevantly, my compassion would drive me to ensure I work hard to make an impact on a child's education. |
| Hobbies: | I am a journalism major and photography minor at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Two of my favorite things to do, therefore, are writing and taking pictures. I also enjoy studying other languages and cultures. I love music and concerts, too. |
